‘Slight Pepper’ wins in Toronto

Audiences at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) received a good “trini” dose of Doubles With Slight Pepper as the short film of the same name was awarded the coveted “Best Canadian Short” for the 2011 TIFF Short Cuts lineup.
The production was selected as a 2011 recipient of grant funding under the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company’s (TTFC) Production Assistance and Script Development (PASD) Programme. As one of 31 productions to receive support this year, Doubles features young actor Sanjiv Boodhu as ‘Dhani’, a young man who must decide if he will help save his estranged father, Ragbir (Errol Sitahal). Will Dhani set aside his hatred and begin a new relationship with his father?
Producer Ian Harnarine describes the story as one “that explores the intrinsic bonds both physical and emotional between family”. Look out for “seconds” and “thirds” of Doubles With Slight Pepper which is expected to be released officially in 2012.
